Retail Hell Facing shoppers during Black Midnight

black midnightWith Christmas merchandise having been on store shelves for over two months in some cases, you have had the opportunity to get a lot of your holiday shopping done by now.  Are you nearly done?  If not don’t worry, the larger stores are doing everything in their power to help you.

Normally the day after Thanksgiving (US) has been called Black Friday and represents one of, if not the busiest shopping days of the holiday season.  This year Black Midnight is replacing Black Friday as everyone who is everyone in the retail shopping landscape – Target, Macy’s Kohls, Best Buy – are opening up at midnight on the night of Thanksgiving, so shoppers can get an early jump on their shopping with the lure of extra special savings.

Chief Executive Brian Dunn of Best Buy, said he felt compelled to make “a very difficult decision” and open at midnight because retail rivals were doing the same, though the decision was controversial inside the company.

“I feel terrible,” said Mr. Dunn, previously a store manager, speaking in San Francisco during a conference. “It will change some Thanksgiving plans for our employees. It certainly changes mine.”

This new early opening trend is being referred to as Black Midnight. GOOD NAME.

This trend isn’t only for Bricks and Mortar businesses either.  Reports are that most online shops will match the timing and savings of Black Midnight.
